The next day, Sienna and Thomas searched for Nikolai, believing he couldn’t have gone far. They discovered an abandoned Victorian house nearby. Investigating further, Sienna heard a woman’s plea for help from inside and quickly called the police. Soon, other people gathered.
The authorities broke in and found a distressed woman, Asya, who explained in broken English that she came to the States for a better life but ended up a prisoner of a monstrous man.
They rescued her, and soon Nikolai emerged from the basement. Sienna asked about the man responsible, and the officers assured her he was being arrested at his job. They would ensure Asya and Nikolai received help, though her immigrant status was uncertain.
A single photo had led to a shocking discovery, saving two lives.
“I believe the latest photo for the mantel deserves a special place,” Thomas said, holding up a framed print of the now-infamous photo they had posted on social media.
“It’s the best of the bunch,” Sienna quipped.
