But John’s generosity didn’t stop there. He had also donated $19.6 million to the nephrology department at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he had received life-saving treatment for his kidney transplant three decades earlier. His legacy of giving would continue to benefit patients for years to come.
“Words can almost never describe how unselfish and incredibly generous John Parrot is,” remarked Professor Nigel Tusan from the Royal Melbourne Hospital. “We are extremely grateful for such a bequest that will support our hospital and its patients.”
Although John passed away in 2020 at the age of 86, his kindness and legacy live on. Jane Serer, reflecting on John’s gift, expresses her gratitude every day, quietly thanking him for the security and peace he brought to her life.
Thanks to John’s act of kindness, Jane Serer now enjoys her retirement, tending to her beloved garden and cherishing the memories of the landlord who changed her life.
