For my birthday, my mother-in-law — who I’ll admit, isn’t my biggest fan — surprised me with a gift: a nice pair of shoes. It was unusual since she rarely gives me presents, but I didn’t want to create tension, so I accepted them graciously.
About a week later, I had a business trip and decided to wear the shoes. They looked great, but as I walked through the airport, I noticed one shoe felt oddly tight. When I reached security and removed them for screening, things took a surprising turn.
An officer politely asked me to lift the insole of one shoe. Confused, I did as requested — and hidden underneath was a small, sealed plastic bag containing a white powdery substance. My heart raced. What could it be?
The officers calmly led me to a nearby room for further inspection. I was terrified, having no idea what was going on. Thankfully, after a careful examination, they determined the powder was harmless — just ordinary baking powder.
Relieved but shaken, I was eventually cleared to continue my trip. Yet, the mystery lingered: why was there baking powder hidden inside my birthday gift?
