Texas Toast Sloppy Joe’s

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 8 slices of Texas toast (garlic bread)
  • 8 slices of white American cheese

How to Make Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Step 1: Preheat the broiler on high.

Step 2: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and bell pepper until the meat is browned and veggies are soft. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3: Reduce heat to low. Add ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and garlic powder. Stir well and simmer for 5–10 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Step 4: Arrange the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet. Broil until golden and crispy.

Step 5: Add a slice of cheese to each toast and broil for 30 seconds to melt.

Step 6: Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto each slice, then top with another slice of cheese.

Step 7: Broil again until the cheese melts. Serve hot and enjoy!
