Why I’ll Never Take My Mom’s ‘Nagging’ for Granted Again”

Let me share a little story about the circle of life.

Yesterday, my 80-year-old mom reminded me—her nearly 50-year-old child—to bring my laundry upstairs. She also taught me how to clean a pot I’ve owned for 20 years and made sure I blacked out shipping labels for returns.

Frustrated, I snapped, “Mom, I know how to do this!” She just laughed, sipped her tea, and rearranged her magic purse, packed with everything from tissues to candy.

Later, I caught myself giving my teenagers the same reminders: “Send in that form,” “Take your coat upstairs,” “Put the bowl in the dishwasher.” Their exasperated “I know, Mom!” mirrored my earlier reaction, and I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony.
