Born on November 14, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri, Sandal Bergman showed an early passion for performing. From the age of five, she was enrolled in dance classes, setting the stage for a career that would span both screen and stage. Her family’s support was instrumental in her development, especially the opportunities to perform in local productions and at the Starlight Theater during her high school years.
Her big break came under the mentorship of Tommy Tune, a towering figure in the entertainment world who spotted her during a high school performance. This recognition launched her into a series of Broadway roles, including an impressive stint in Pippin, and later, significant parts in Mack and Mabel and the stage adaptation of Gigi.
However, it was her role in Conan the Barbarian that catapulted her to international fame. Her portrayal of Valeria not only won her a Golden Globe but also established her as a formidable force in Hollywood. Surprisingly, despite her success, Bergman’s presence in major film roles waned after Conan. She did continue to work, appearing in several films and TV shows, but none captured the public’s imagination like her role in Conan.
