It turned out that the shelter was built during WWII to protect people from air raids.
Simon believes the previous owner of the house knew about it and filled it in when constructing the garden.
“One of the walls was bricked up, so we’re pretty sure there aren’t any more rooms,” Simon said. “If that’s the case, we’ll just leave it as it is.”
Simon’s photos and story of the discovery went viral online, capturing the public’s imagination.
Now, Simon and his father plan to restore the shelter. They see it as a valuable piece of history that offers a glimpse into the past.
“It’s important to preserve these historical sites,” Simon said. “Even though that era is over, we shouldn’t forget it.”
