The Doorbell Rings
Thanksgiving morning was as chaotic as ever—Megan cooking, Leo watching TV, and me setting the table. Everything felt almost normal until the doorbell rang.
Leo jumped up. “It’s him! The man with the flowers!”
My stomach churned as I glanced at Megan. Her face was ashen.
I stopped Leo from opening the door. Outside stood a man in a floral delivery uniform, holding a bouquet.
“I know she requested no deliveries today, but this was last-minute,” he explained nervously.
I turned to Megan, my voice sharp. “What’s going on?”
The Truth Comes Out
After the delivery man left, Megan sank onto the couch. “It’s not what you think,” she said softly. “I didn’t mean to keep it a secret—I just didn’t know how to explain.”
“Explain what?” I asked, arms crossed.
Her eyes filled with tears. “I’ve been working with a therapist. The flowers… they’re part of my therapy. She sends them occasionally as a reminder to be kind to myself.”
I blinked, stunned. “Therapy?”
She nodded. “I’ve been struggling, Tom. With you working late, the stress, feeling like I’m not enough for Leo… I needed help. The flowers were meant to brighten my day, but Leo must’ve seen the deliveries.”
Relief and guilt washed over me. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to add to your stress,” she whispered.
I pulled her close. “You’re never a burden, Megan. I wish I’d noticed sooner.”
A Renewed Connection
That Thanksgiving, as we sat together, I realized how easily life’s pressures can distance us. Megan’s honesty brought us closer, and I vowed to be more present.
Sometimes, it takes an unexpected moment to remind us of what truly matters.
