Volodymyr Zelenskyy, once a well-known comedian, has become a global figure as the president of Ukraine, leading his country through unprecedented challenges. Born Olena Kiyashko on February 5, 1978, in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, she and Zelenskyy grew up in the same city, just a week apart in age. Their paths eventually crossed at Kryvyi Rih National University, where Zelenskyy’s humor and charisma made him a recognizable figure.
Their relationship grew over time, evolving from friendship into a lasting partnership. Despite initial hesitations, they developed a deep connection, eventually marrying on September 6, 2003. A year later, they welcomed their daughter, Aleksandra, followed by their son, Kiril, in 2013. At the time, neither imagined a future in politics—Zelenskyy was immersed in the entertainment industry, while Olena worked as a writer. Their professional paths overlapped when Olena contributed to Zelenskyy’s projects, including his popular comedy series Servant of the People.
